Luna, n.o. safe women's home Trenčín

About the project
Launch and implementation

In the Trenčín region, there is a lack of greater awareness regarding the topic of domestic and gender-based violence in boys and men. When it comes to considering options for a solution, a seemingly simple but crucial question comes to the fore – what exactly is domestic violence? When can certain behaviors be characterized as violence? What manifestations does it include, and what, on the contrary, is it not? Where is the line between the socially acceptable? We will try to answer all these questions as part of our communication campaigns.

The project LUNA n.o. Bezpečný ženský domov v Trenčíne” benefits from a 600 000 € grant from Norway through the Norway Grants. The project has been co-financed from the State Budget of the Slovak Republic in the amount of 90 000 €. The aim of the project is to ensure the continuation and development of the operation of the BŽD and the counseling center managed by LUNA, n.o.

However, we will mainly focus on Trenčín, Ilava, Nové Mesto nad Váhom, Bánovce nad Bebravou, Púchov, Myjava, Partizánske, Prievidza, Považská Bystrica.

Project summary

A number of awareness-raising initiatives and the topic mentioned have focused explicitly or imlicitly on women as potential victims of various forms of violence. In our initiative, we would like to focus on raising awareness among boys and men, not only as potential offenders, but also as members of society, who play an important role in eliminating sexism and violence against women by men. At the same time, we consider it necessary to focus on young people in general, in the sense of eliminating abusive behaviour in intimate relationships, as well as eliminating the gender stereotypes that encourage such behaviour.

Partners

Trenčín self-governing region

The Trenčín self-governing region is responsible for the comprehensive development of the region and has an eminent interest in making services available to women and their children at risk of violence. The entry of TSK as a partner into the project is an important condition for the implementation of defined activities in order to achieve the outputs and results of the project. Through the partnership of the regional government with the entities providing services in the area, the activities will acquire a regional dimension and awareness of them will be spread on a larger scale. The provided accommodation capacities or services with the primary aim of enabling the return of the mother and child to their natural environment will thus become more accessible to a larger target group of potential clients. As well as with ÚPSVaR, we have established cooperation with TSK for a long time, since 2015 when they were our parterre within the implemented project.

SWAN Mobile, a. s.

SWAN Mobile, a.s., has the possibility to provide an easy-to-remember phone number for the duration of the LUNA n.o. project. A safe women's home in Trenčín. The entry of SWAN Mobile, a.s., yes of the project partner represents an easier access to the crisis line, thanks to an easy-to-remember number, taking into account that in most situations it happens that a woman does not have too much time and needs to quickly remember the phone number. Therefore, choosing this type of number could have an impact on making it easier to "call for help" for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. At the same time, this figure will be easy to remember even for those who know either a woman or a child who is subjected to such violence and will therefore be able to contact a non-profit organization more easily.

CALLS FOR TENDERS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A THERAPEUTIC GARDEN 2022
CONTRACTS AND ORDERS

Project Women's Home Trenčín

About the project

In the Trenčín region, there was a lack of presence of a facility for women and their children experiencing domestic violence, so the goal of the non-profit organization LUNA n. o. was to build such a facility called BŽD (Safe Women's Home) for victims of domestic violence.

Thanks to the project Women's Home Trenčín No. DGV03002, which is funded by a grant from the Kingdom of Norway through the Norwegian Financial Mechanism and co-financed from the state budget of the Slovak Republic under the "Program SK09 – Domestic and Gender-Based Violence", the non-profit organization managed to build a new facility called the Safe Women's Home for Women and their Children Experiencing Domestic and Gender-Based Violence in Trenčín.

Information on the Norwegian Financial Mechanism can be found here: http://www.eeagrants.sk

In the BŽD facility there are 21 residential units with a capacity of 53 people. Each apartment has a balcony or terrace (depends on the area of m² of the apartment), a separate equipped kitchen, refrigerator, TV, wardrobe, beds, table, chairs (depending on the number of people in the room), toilet and shower. In the common areas there is an entrance hall, a therapy room, a playroom for children, a laundry room and an ambulance. The facility includes a large yard and a garden terrace. It is located in a safe environment in a closed area protected by a camera system with an opaque fence.

The BŽD device provides:

• residential social service,

• a round-the-clock crisis line,

• psychological counselling,

• crisis intervention;

• social counselling,

• legal advice,

• education for female clients (parenting skills, household management),

• escort to the court or the police.

The length of stay is adapted to how long the client will need protection and support.

Clients can also come from another self-governing region, but we focus primarily on the districts of Trenčín, Ilava, Nové Mesto nad Váhom, Bánovce nad Bebravou, Púchov, Myjava, Partizánske, Prievidza and Považská Bystrica.

Clients can call us on the 24-hour crisis line. In the event that the client is undecided or is afraid, worried, she can write an e-mail. All the necessary information can be learned on our website, or can use outpatient counseling.

Launch and implementation

Place of realization

The project Women's Home Trenčín – a space for a full life without violence, will be implemented mainly in the Trenčín self-governing region. The scope of where the victims of intimate partner violence (women and their children) will come from can also be wider, they can also come from another self-governing region. However, we will mainly focus on Trenčín, Ilava, Nové Mesto nad Váhom, Bánovce nad Bebravou, Púchov, Myjava, Partizánske, Prievidza, Považská Bystrica. Part of the project (professional traineeship of workers) participating in the project will be implemented in Norway, or project activities such as education can be carried out in another self-governing region.

Project summary

The main aim of the project is to establish a new women's safe house that will meet minimum European standards and part of the valuable above-standard for safe living of mothers with children, victims of partner, gender-based violence, taking into account the requirements of a barrier-free solution of the building in which clients will be provided with comprehensive services based on the principle of strengthening the rights of the victim.

The problem with contemporary society is that, despite the declarations of equality between the sexes, women are discriminated against in many areas of life (e.g. pay in employment, position in management positions, in politics). It is financial dependence on a partner that is one of the factors involved in the power of a man over a woman. Many women, fearing the impossibility of securing housing and income for themselves and their children, remain with the abuser. A safe women's house is a place where it is possible to provide women and their children with the basic necessities of life, alleviate their harms, strengthen their self-confidence and self-confidence, support them in building a sense of independence from the abuser and allow them to start a fulfilling life. Society should ensure that safe women's homes are available to victims of domestic violence 24 hours a day, including appropriate professional services.

This project will allow capacity building for the safe living of women and children in the Trenčín self-governing region, in the city of Trenčín, which is a regional city providing sufficient opportunities to ensure the anonymity and safety of our clients. In doing so, in public awareness, we will focus primarily on districts where there are no services for women who have been physically, mentally or sexually abused or threatened, regardless of nationality, religion or income level. This is the construction of a completely new object. The house for women is designed to fulfill the functions of a refuge for women and children who find themselves in a crisis situation. Women will be provided not only with emergency accommodation, but also with other specialised services for them and their children.

The layout of the premises will be as follows:
On the ground floor there will be a warehouse, laundry + drying room, kitchenette for employees, boiler room, toilet, office, therapy room, children's playroom for playing with an exit to the garden – terrace, 2 barrier-free apartments, gatehouse – SBS reception. 7 housing units will be located on the 1st floor, 7 housing units on the 2nd floor, and 5 housing units on the 3rd floor. In total, 21 separate accommodation units will be created in our house.

Within the functioning of the facility, women will have certain rules that will have to be followed to ensure order and safety for all women and their children to whom the social service will be provided. In case of non-compliance with these rules, the provision of the social service will be terminated. In order to reduce the possible risk of violent attacks by the rapist, the house will be guarded by the security service, secured in a closed area.

Professional female employees will be employed in the Safe Women's House. As part of the social service, women and their children will be

(a) provide:

1. accommodation for a certain period of time

2. Social counseling

3. Assistance in the exercise of rights and legitimate interests

(b) to create the conditions for:

1. Preparation of the diet

2. carrying out the necessary basic personal hygiene

3. Washing, ironing

4. Activity of interest

Psychological and legal counselling will also be provided to women and their children.

With its content, the project follows the strategy of our organization, which is to provide comprehensive and professional services for victims of intimate partner violence with their children. These will be implemented in the BŽD through the following activities:
• informing the public about the issue of violence against women, its consequences, how and how to help and identify violence;
• providing psychological counselling, crisis intervention, basic and specialised social counselling, including legal assistance and accompanying female clients in dealing with their situations;
• providing intervention, educational and special educational and psychological care for the children of BŽD clients,
• the establishment of a continuous crisis line in the BŽD for clients, victims of intimate partner (domestic) violence and the availability of the BŽD to receive a client 24 hours a day,
• provision of psychotherapy, supportive therapy – art therapy, ergotherapy, music therapy, filial and game therapy for mothers and children,
• implementation of counselling and motivational activities in order to break down the barriers created by living in social isolation and violence using methods and techniques promoting awareness of one's own worth and the possibilities of developing one's personal and professional potential for employment in the labour market,
• education for BŽD clients – parenting skills, economic literacy, basics of legal awareness, self-defense course.

As part of the project, we will also focus on raising awareness through information campaigns of the Trenčín Self-Governing Region, which will aim to raise awareness among the general public about violence against women, which is often difficult to detect and outwardly hidden, and also about the possibilities, forms and means of solving violence against women and children.

The Trenčín self-governing region has the technical and professional capacities to ensure the fulfilment of legally resulting competences in the field of providing basic social counseling. She is responsible for the comprehensive development of the region and has an eminent interest in making services available to women and their children at risk of violence. During the creation of the project documentation for the reconstruction of the BSK building, he cooperated with the applicant and at the same time the future "operator" so that the premises meet the standards for dignified conditions for the temporary stay of clients in a crisis situation.
The entry of TSK as a partner into the project is a necessary condition for the implementation of subsequent activities in order to achieve the output and results of the project. Thus, the number of accommodation capacities for this type of clients will increase in the Trenčín district, which is one of the critical districts in terms of the availability of specialized services.

Social services of the city of Trenčín, m. r. o.

The applicant is a registered non-public social service provider. Based on this fact, it receives a financial contribution from the partner for its activities every year.
This information is relevant for the sustainability of the project. After its successful implementation, the project promoter establishes and registers a new social service. The main part of the cooperation between the main promoter of the project and this partner will consist in attracting clients.

Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family in Trenčín

The partner organization is directly subordinate to the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the Slovak Republic and can help citizens in the field of educational problems with children, in the divorce of parents, maps and helps with the problem of abuse of a close and trusted person, helps with foster care and also spouses not living in the same household.
By partnering with such a partner from the field of public administration, we will achieve the complexity of not only the services provided to clients, but also the ability to accommodate clients from other regions in the region. At the same time, we will be able to help them in any problem that arises in the social sphere, there will even be an opportunity to help them with employment.

International Development Norway AS

In the project, we have entered into a partnership with a consulting and consulting company from Norway, which has in its portfolio partners, clients, companies and organizations whose activities are specifically similar to those of our n.o. Companies specialize in helping victims of violence and abuse (physical, psychological, marital and sexual), companies that operate day and crisis centers for victims of violence.
We believe that our Norwegian partner will help us find an organisation in Norway that has many years of experience in running a crisis centre for victims of domestic violence. The subject of partnership cooperation is the implementation of professional meetings, workshops and conferences on good practice and "know-how" in the operation and subsequently implemented programs for victims of gender-based violence, programs for children, preventive programs. The partner also has experience in running campaigns and leading teams. In connection with the results of this project, we expect a shift in the quality and efficiency of the support services provided, an expansion of the overview and knowledge of the techniques, forms and methods of these services for our Safe Women's House. At the same time, we would also like to start working with men, because Norway is at the forefront in this area and is already focusing directly on men – potential rapists and not just victims – in education.
